Animals in the library

Service Animals as defined by Title II and Title III of the ADA are welcome in the library. Title II and Title III of the ADA define Service Animals as: Any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.

All other animals including emotional support animals, comfort animals, and therapy dogs are not service animals under Title II and Title III of the ADA and are not permitted in the library.

Collection Development Policy

The Albert Solheim Library collection is developed primarily to meet the educational needs of the Undergraduate and Graduate students of Pacific Northwest College of Art. In keeping with our role as a College of art, craft, and design, the collections focus on all aspects of visual culture and its relationship to the arts. The collections emphasize scholarship on the major participants, perspectives, events, and trends of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and the critical discourse surrounding these activities. Library collections are in continual development, including the acquisition and deselection of materials; subject strengths will vary over time mirroring the diverse information-seeking needs of our patrons. We recognize that many important voices and perspectives have historically been–and continue to be–omitted from the discourse of scholarship and strive to build our collection in ways that counteract the effect these omissions have on our community’s understanding of the world.
